Despite a local tragedy, we continued our journey to Las Vegas. The stop that we just had to make was the Hoover Dam - a strange shrine of capitalism and industry. Built in the Art Deco period during the Great Depression, the dam includes massive bronze winged statues and astrological symbols, as well as plaques to those who died in the construction of the dam.

The American flag was flying at half-mast to respect those killed in the previous day's Las Vegas shooting.
On to Vegas, we saw that our accommodation was in a complex just down the road from the Mandalay Bay (where the shooting had occurred), and the police had cordoned off the end of the street. There was a very interesting tone to the town. News reporters had swooped in like vultures and parts of Las Vegas Boulevard were very difficult to walk down because of the cameras.

We watched a little movie called: I lost my 'M' in Vegas'and then looked around the store with all the candy dispensers and T-shirts full of M&M pictures. Later that afternoon we went to Hershey World and I got a shirt.
